The changes are making their initial debut this fall on transoceanic Delta One flights departing from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). This strategic rollout location is no coincidence; LAX remains one of the most hotly contested and competitive premium aviation markets in the United States. Major domestic competitors like United Airlines and American Airlines, alongside a roster of international carriers, are constantly vying for high-yielding business class passengers on transcontinental and transoceanic routes. Following the initial launch out of Los Angeles, Delta plans to progressively expand these upgraded offerings across its entire global network by early 2027.

What’s on the Menu

At the center of the Delta One culinary revamp is a completely redesigned menu featuring an array of sophisticated dishes. Passengers can now look forward to a specialized Delta One Wagyu burger, Hong Kong-style sea bass, braised lamb, short ribs, and rotating seasonal risotto dishes, among other gourmet options. Delta enlisted the expertise of a Michelin-starred chef to help conceptualize and develop the new menu, a move designed to elevate the culinary standards of the cabin significantly.

Perhaps the most practical improvement for frequent flyers is a subtle shift in the pre-selection window. Travelers can now pre-select their primary entrée up to 18 hours before scheduled departure, extending the previous 24-hour cutoff by six hours. While seemingly minor, this adjustment gives passengers a broader window to secure their preferred meal rather than risking availability upon check-in.

Furthermore, pre-selection choices are expanding to accommodate gluten-free meals and lighter culinary options. For overnight flights, passengers now have the practical choice to skip the traditional breakfast service entirely, opting instead for a simple coffee and a freshly baked croissant prior to landing. This option allows travelers to maximize their uninterrupted sleep during the final hours of the flight.

Delta’s signature dessert cart and build-your-own ice cream sundae station will remain a staple of the service, enhanced with new additions like rich chocolate sauce, Amarena cherries, and a doughnut garnish. Additionally, the airline is introducing a dairy-free sorbet that can be topped with Champagne Taittinger, accompanied by a newly upgraded cheese plate.

Amenities and Extras

Beginning November 3, Delta One passengers will receive the new Winter Elsewhere collection of Missoni amenity kits. These stylish pouches feature Grown Alchemist skincare products, a Marvis dental kit, and a functional wrist strap designed to encourage travelers to repurpose the kit long after their journey concludes. In addition to the amenity pouches, Delta One flyers will now receive a second Missoni cuddle pillow to enhance in-flight comfort.

Another popular airline souvenir, Bombas socks, is also returning to the cabin. These limited-edition socks, stamped with the phrase "Fly Delta Jets," will be distributed on select domestic and international Delta One flights departing from the U.S.

Onboard service enhancements include hot towels, warm mixed nuts, and a pre-selected beverage waiting at the passenger’s seat immediately following boarding. Meal services will feature freshly cracked pepper for the first course, and sauces will now be served separately on the side rather than pre-poured over entrées.

For top-tier travelers booking the airline’s VIP Select service, Delta is nearly doubling its fleet of dedicated Porsche vehicles, expanding tarmac transfer services across 15 major airports by 2028.

The Elephant in the Cabin

Despite the substantial upgrades to food, beverage, amenities, and service, aviation analysts point out that these improvements do not address the physical seating found on many of Delta’s older long-haul aircraft. While the soft product is receiving a comprehensive modernization, the hard product—the actual seat where passengers spend ten or more hours—remains unchanged on a significant portion of the fleet.

On numerous long-haul routes, Delta continues to operate older aircraft with outdated business class configurations. The most frequent target of criticism from frequent flyers is the Boeing 767-300 fleet, whose older cabins are often referred to as "coffin class." Delta has not announced plans to retrofit these specific aircraft with modern suites.

Looking ahead, Delta One Suites are scheduled to debut on incoming Airbus A350-1000 aircraft deliveries in early 2027, with older Airbus A330 planes slated for similar cabin retrofits over the coming years. However, with an estimated completion timeline stretching toward 2030, travelers will continue to encounter varied cabin configurations for the foreseeable future. While the culinary and amenity upgrades represent a welcome improvement, industry observers emphasize that the overall flight experience will still depend heavily on the specific aircraft operating the route.
